Westin Homes Launches Project Playhouse!

Westin Homes, the builder of the 2013 Project Playhouse, has created a playhouse theme that is ‘out of this world’. Westin has partnered with HomeAid Houston, a 501 c 3 charity of Greater Houston Builders Association charity and the Houston Astros, to construct a playhouse for this seventh annual fund raiser that salutes the Astros new mascot, Orbit. Orbit is a lime-green outer-space creature wearing an Astros jersey with antennae extending into baseballs. It was originally the team’s mascot from the 1990 through the 1999 seasons.

The annual Project Playhouse raises funds to build transitional housing for Houston’s homeless. The public has opportunities to enter a drawing for a chance to win the playhouse later in the summer.

This year’s playhouse design is an imaginative “playship” that features a cockpit complete with swivel seats, “rocket booster” - framed windows, an operable hatched - ramp door and interior detailing that will inspire a child’s imagination. The playship will also include air conditioning, electricity, and will be outfitted with a fully loaded electronics package.

“Westin Homes’ whimsical design and thoughtful planning is an inspiration for the entire Project Playhouse team,” said Ron Martin, president of HomeAid Houston. “They’ve captured a child’s fantasy of space travel and “little green men” that we’ve all imagined at some point as children. The playship theme is a wonderful attraction for both boys and girls.”

In addition to being on display during Astros games at Minute Maid Park from June 25th through July 4th, the playship will also blast off for other galaxies including the Greater Houston Builders Association’s New Home and Remodeling Show on June 8th and 9th.

The playhouse is built with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members.
