2011 Project Playhouse
HomeAid Houston is teaming with the Houston Astros and Trendmaker Homes for this fifth annual fund raiser that raises money for the construction of transitional housing for Houston's homeless. The playhouse will make its debut at the Sienna Plantation "Sip n Stroll" event on Saturday, April 30th, and then on June 11th and 12th it will be on display at the GHBA New Home and Remodeling Show at Reliant Park. The Astros Express will then make its final trip to Minute Maid Park, on the concourse level, where it will reside for the Astros home games from July 15th to August 21st. A second, similarly designed playhouse, is also being built by Trendmaker that will be auctioned off at the Astros Wives Gala on August 18th. Funds raised for that playhouse will go to a HomeAid Care project for the Houston Area Women's Center. Trendmaker will construct the home with donated materials and services from GHBA members. The playhouse team consists of Lead Organizer - Eva Brunell; Design - John Gowen and Heather Scruggs; Construction & Supply – Terry Shuffler, Dave Walton, Tom Woollett, Greg Schott; Marketing & Promotion - Melissa Guerra, Lin Spear, Tori Torres, and Ashlee Lynch. The house will be chock full of fun amenities such as a 37" LCD TV, Sony PS3, Apple iPod Nano, iPod docking station, portable fridge, security camera for home monitoring, air conditioning and electrical hookup. HomeAid Houston's Project Playhouse is generating excitement with the recent unveiling of the 2011 playhouse design. The design, inspired by the fund raiser's baseball theme, is modeled after the train at Minute Maid Park that is a signature feature of the stadium. The playhouse has been named The Astros Express.
