Covenant House Texas (CHT) Crisis Shelter serves homeless youth ranging in age from 18 to 20 and houses an average of 40 to 50 every night. The youth come voluntarily and no one is turned away. All individuals are given a medical exam and vocational and psychiatric assessments to determine what additional services are needed.
Shelter residents are assigned an advisor who works with the youth, other agencies, and family members to develop a plan that will return the youth to a stable living arrangement and/or independent living.
In 2010, HomeAid Houston worked with Remodeler Captain Kenneth Charanza, Charanza Contracting, Inc to remodel a portion of the CHT administration building that was built in the 1930s. The entryway of the administration building was redesigned for improved functionality and to create a warm and inviting reception area. In addition, a redesign and remodel of the administration conference room and an additional lavatory were part of the improvements.
