HOMEAID RECEIVES SUPPORT FROM GHBA FUNDRAISER
December 18, 2017

HomeAid Houston, a 501 c 3 charity sponsored by the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), provides new construction and remodeling to qualified homeless care providers in Harris and the surrounding counties.  To help make this happen, HomeAid receives support from the GHBA’s 37 year-old charity fundraiser, the Benefit Homes Project.  This fundraiser is one of HomeAid’s largest contributors, having donated to HomeAid Houston over $600,000 since 2007.

This GHBA commitment was highlighted at a recent GHBA board meeting where the agency was presented with a check from the sale of a 2017 GHBA Benefit Home built by one of the top record-holders, Chesmar Homes.  Chesmar sold their home in the new community of Elyson located off the Grand Parkway and FM 529.  The community's developer, Newland Communities, donated the homesite.  Chesmar Homes has raised more than funds for the charities of the Benefit Homes Project, as of 2017, than any other Benefit Home.

Don Klein, president of Chesmar and the 2018 GHBA president and Scott Merovitch, president of Chesmar's Houston region presented a check to HomeAid's Executive Director, Bette Moser for $95,000.

Each year two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members.  The homes are loaded with upgrades and amenities and are sold at market value.  Proceeds benefit local charities.  In 2017 and 2018 the charities are HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.

“GHBA members continue to step up and provide funds so HomeAid can successfully complete our mission  which is to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach," said Moser. "These generous companies and individuals contributing through the Benefit Homes Project, understand that without help from within the community, the homeless numbers will continue to rise.  We can’t thank the GHBA and its builders, developers, vendors and trades enough for all they’ve done for our cause.”
