HomeAid Houston, a charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), was recently named the beneficiary of a crawfish boil that was hosted by DPIS Engineering. The event, called "Pinchin' Tails for HomeAid Houston”, raised over $19,000 for HomeAid's mission, "to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach."
DPIS Engineering, a member of the GHBA, is no rookie when it comes to handling crawfish. The company has hosted several hugely successful crawfish boils over the past few years, but 2016 was the first “Pinchin' Tails for HomeAid Houston” charity event. DPIS and dozens of volunteers organized the fundraiser as a team competition that was held at the company's location in Tomball, Texas.
Ten teams competed for the much coveted honor of taking home the top three places. Categories included, Crawfish, Jambalaya, Etoufee and Cocktail Sauce. The teams were Colina Homes, Chesmar Homes, Lennar Homes, Builders Post-Tension, IES Residential, Choate Concrete, Heads or Tails, Go Crawfish, DPIS Engineering and Dupont Tyvek. Event volunteers were led by DPIS's Brannon King and Tessa Martin with additional support from Greg Tomlinson with Builders Post-Tension and Chris Hawkins with Bayou City Risk.
"This event is a way for folks in our industry to get together for a fun competition and to also give back to a community that has supported our business for years," said Dale Philips, president of DPIS Engineering. "We were thrilled to have HomeAid as the beneficiary this year, as we see the valuable work they do for Houston's homeless."
HomeAid Houston is a 501 c 3 charity that has been serving Houston's homeless community since 2003. HomeAid has completed 36 construction projects for homeless agencies, totaling over $10 million real estate value and adding over 400 beds for homeless men, women, children and veterans.
Sponsors of the event included, Builders Post-Tension, Centerpoint Energy, Trus-Joist by Weyerhaeuser, Prodigy Insurance, Airteam, PE Square, Tamlyn & Sons, Aces Builders Warranty, Sprint Waste, MSF Electric, Inc. and Dow Building Solutions.
"Pinchin' Tails for HomeAid Houston was a great experience for everyone who attended," said Cindy Hinson, president of HomeAid. "I never realized how many varieties of recipes there are for crawfish. We can't thank Dale Philips, his professional team, and the generous sponsors enough for everything they did to make this a successful fundraiser."
