Gracewood is a residential ministry in Houston for single mothers and their children. It is one of four Children At Heart Ministries that serve children and families in crisis. The original facility is located in south Houston.
HomeAid Houston and MHI are partnering to provide Gracewood with a 6,828 sq. ft. five-family residential facility in northwest Houston. The Ground Breaking in December will launch construction of the new structure that will add up to 20 beds for homeless single mothers who have physical custody of their children and single-mother families who are at risk for homelessness due to a crisis situation. “The entire MHI team is looking forward to working with both HomeAid and Gracewood for such a worthy cause,” said James Miller, president of MHI. “This new facility will provide a new beginning for so many deserving women and children.”
“Children at Heart Ministries and Gracewood are excited about joining HomeAid Houston for this important project,” said Jerry T. Bradley, president and CEO of Children at Heart Ministries. “This building will provide shelter for many families and children for years to come. The generosity by MHI and their vendors is priceless to our organization.”
“It is so heart warming to be a part of such a huge undertaking as the Gracewood Project,” said Kathleen Stadler, president of the HomeAid Board. “The ground breaking will be like an early Christmas present for so many, especially the women and children the Project will benefit.”
In 2006, Gracewood received over 50 calls for every opening that became available. Expanding the facilities to include additional locations throughout Houston is part of an overall growth plan to serve homeless single mothers in the greater Houston area.
