Established in 2001, Gracewood is a nonprofit residential program for mothers and their children fleeing homelessness and other crisis situations that threaten the safety and stability of the family. Gracewood offers a safe haven in a time of crisis, a place where motivated moms take part in supportive programs and counseling to help them succeed in life with her children.
Mothers are offered classes in nutrition, budgeting and parenting classes and access to community resources such as job training and education. Children attend public schools, get counseling if necessary, and live in a safe environment. Families come to Gracewood from all walks of life, but all have one thing in common: They are single mothers who love their children and are ready to do whatever it takes to make a better life for their families.
The original Gracewood campus is located on three wooded acres in a Southwest Houston residential neighborhood. A Christian ministry, Gracewood is part of Children At Heart Ministries, based in Round Rock. Other CAH ministries include Miracle Farm in Brenham, STARRY in Round Rock and Richmond, and Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock.
